What is Twitchy Butcher Studios?

I’m JC Thompson, and this is my tiny little corner of the tabletop RPG industry. 

I tend to make games that don’t fit into neat categories. My first setting, Gods and Masters, is about a brutal partisan war in a fantasy city. Stingers & Spores takes high fantasy and brings it into a world of insects. My newest project, The Good, the Bad, and the Bugly, takes the Stingers & Spores world and brings it into the Wild West. 

While I have a lot of fun bringing unorthodox worlds to my readers, I’m not trying to just make games that are weird. I take a lot of pride in the mechanics that are underneath them. 

I like mechanics that are purposeful and subtle. I aim to make rules that quietly encourage the type of behavior I want to see at the table, and create interesting decisions. I am a little obsessive about balance. This isn’t because every option needs to be mathematically identical, but because players should be able to make interesting choices without accidentally discovering that one choice is simply the “correct” one. True choices are all about trade-offs. 

I write and publish exclusively in the Savage Worlds system. It is the system I prefer to run and play. Since everything is designed with this system in mind, you can be assured that there are no hasty rule conversions, and everything was made with a fundamental understanding of the core rules.
